The Will of a Saint: The Story of Hazrat Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki (RA)

The Passing of Hazrat Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki (RA)

When Hazrat Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki (RA) passed away, there was an uproar. The funeral procession was prepared and brought to a large field for the prayers.

A vast crowd emerged to attend the funeral prayers. It seemed like a sea of people, stretching as far as the eye could see, resembling a tumultuous ocean. As the time for the funeral prayers approached, a man stepped forward and claimed that he was the appointed successor (Wasi). He said that Hazrat Kaki (RA) had entrusted him with a will that he wanted to convey to the assembly. The crowd fell silent.

The will was as follows: Hazrat Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki (RA) had instructed that his funeral prayers be led by someone who possessed four qualities:

1. First Quality: He should have never missed the first Takbir (Takbir al-Ula) in his life.
2. Second Quality: He should have never missed the Tahajjud prayers.
3. Third Quality: He should have never looked at a non-mahram with a lustful gaze.
4. Fourth Quality: He should be so dedicated in worship that he has never missed the Sunnah prayers of Asr.

Upon hearing this, the crowd was struck dumb. A profound silence fell over them, and heads bowed in contemplation. Who among them could step forward? After some time, a man, crying, came forward. He approached the funeral, uncovered the shroud, and said, “Qutbuddin, you have passed away, and now you have exposed me. You have revealed my secret.”

Then, in front of the assembled crowd, he swore by Allah, acknowledging Him as the witness, that he possessed all four qualities. The crowd saw that this was none other than the reigning king, Shamsuddin Iltutmish.

کبھی ہمارے حکمران بادشاه ایسے بھی ہوا کرتے تھے

جب حضرت قطب الدین بختیار کاکیؒ کی وفات ہوئی تو کہرام مچ گیا۔ جنازہ تیار ہوا ایک بڑے میدان میں جنازہ پڑھنے کے لئے لایا گیا

مخلوق بڑی تعداد میں جنازہ پڑھنے کے لیے نکل پڑی تھی۔ انسانوں کا ایک سمندر تھا جو حدِ نگاہ تک نظر آتا تھا۔ یوں معلوم ہوتا تھا کہ ایک بِپھرے ہوئے دریا کی مانند یہ مجمع ہے۔ جب جنازہ پڑھانے کا وقت آیا ایک آدمی آگے بڑھا. کہتا ہے کہ میں وصی ہوں. مجھے حضرتؒ نے وصیت کی تھی میں اس مجمع تک وہ وصیت پہنچانا چاہتا ہوں، مجمع خاموش ہوگیا۔ وصیت کیا تھی، خواجہ قطب الدین بختیار کاکیؒ نے یہ وصیت کی کہ میرا جنازہ وہ شخص پڑھائے جس کے اندر چار خوبیاں ہوں۔

   پہلی خوبی یہ ہے کہ زندگی میں اس کی تکبیر اولیٰ کبھی قضا نہ ہوئی ہو

دوسری شرط اس کی تہجد کی نماز کبھی قضا نہ ہوئی ہو
تیسری بات یہ ہے کہ اس نے غیر محرم پر کبھی بھی بری نظر نہ ڈالی ہو
چوتھی بات یہ ہے کہ اتنا عبادت گزار ہو حتیٰ کہ اس نے عصر کی سنتیں بھی کبھی نہ چھوڑی ہوں

جس شخص میں چار خوبیاں ہوں وہ میرا جنازہ پڑھائے، جب یہ بات کی گئی تو مجمع کو سانپ سونگھ گیا۔ سناٹا چھا گیا لوگوں کے سر جھک گئے۔ کون ہے جو قدم آگے بڑھائے، کافی دیر ہوگئی حتیٰ کہ ایک شخص روتا ہوا آگے بڑھا۔ حضرت قطب الدین بختیار کاکیؒ کے جنازے کے قریب آیا. جنازے سے چادر ہٹائی اور کہا قطب الدین آپ خود تو فوت ہوگئے مجھے رُسوا کردیا۔ میرا راز کھول دیا

اس کے بعد بھرے مجمع کے سامنے اَللّٰه کو حاضر و ناظر جان کر قسم اٹھائی میرے اندر یہ چاروں خوبیاں موجود ہیں لوگوں نے دیکھا یہ وقت کا بادشاہ ” شمس الدین التمش “ تھا۔
